Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based approach that combines cognitive-behavioral techniques with principles of mindfulness and acceptance. DBT is designed to help people understand and change patterns that contribute to emotional distress while also learning to relate to their experiences with greater awareness and self-compassion.

Working collaboratively with a therapist, clients learn practical skills across four core modules: Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. These skills help individuals manage intense emotions, tolerate distress without making situations worse, and communicate more effectively in relationships.

A central focus of DBT is finding balance between acceptance and change – learning to accept oneself and one’s experiences as they are, while also working toward meaningful change. DBT has been shown to be highly effective for individuals who experience intense emotions, emotional reactivity, or difficulty regulating their feelings, and it provides concrete tools that can be applied in everyday life.
